Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates is delighted that after years of campaigning both Welshpool Hospital and Llandrindod Wells Hospital have been chosen as locations for two new dialysis units in Powys.
Welcoming the announcement by the Health Minister, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Mick Bates states:
“This is fantastic news for renal dialysis patients in Powys, who will no longer have to travel unacceptable distances to access treatment in Shrewsbury or Hereford. Thanks go to every dedicated campaigner who has worked so hard over many years to see a renal dialysis unit in Welshpool, in particular the Welshpool Hospital League of Friends which has raised much money to support the development of facilities at Welshpool Hospital.
“Clinicians in Shrewsbury have long argued that Welshpool is the optimum location for the development of a new dialysis unit so it is a disappointment that the decision took so long. The Minister has not outlined the timescale for the development of the new unit at Welshpool but I hope that it is now installed as quickly as possible, so that patients can benefit from the enormous difference that local dialysis provision will make to their lives.”
