Wrexham Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, joined a cross-party selection of AMs who ‘went red’ in Cardiff, to show support for World Blood Donor Day last week.
The event, backed by the World Health Organisation and the Welsh Blood service aimed to ‘Paint the World Red’ for World blood Donor day on June 14th. Lesley, a long time backer of the Welsh Blood Service, joined other AMs all adorned in red, to mark ‘World blood donor day’ on Tuesday. The event formed part of a string of events worldwide which were designed to raise awareness of the work of and constant need for blood and platelet donors.
The theme for World Blood Donor Day 2011 was, ‘More blood, More life’, and was marked by a huge variety of events and activities across the globe, from football matches to free concerts, and from mobile blood donation clinics to monumental decorations.
Of the event, Lesley Griffiths said:
“Across the world people joined to highlight the continual need for blood and platelet donors, and give a big ‘thankyou’ to those who selflessly donate each year.”
“I am proud to have been able to take part in one of World Blood Donor Day events, and would like to thank the Welsh Blood Service for inviting me to their Cardiff event.
“The Welsh Blood Service provides a vital service without which our Health Service could not function, and this event is a rare chance to highlight and pay tribute to the vital work they do. Everyone is a candidate for blood donation, and I would encourage people to consider giving blood – it is quick, painless and could save lives. “
