Politician and art critic Dr Kim Howells is set to talk about his life and long career when he is special guest at Pontypridd Library on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
Dr Howells, who was MP for Pontypridd from 1989 to 2010, held a number of ministerial positions within the Government. Born in Merthyr Tydfil and raised in Penywaun near Aberdare, he is a former pupil of Mountain Ash Grammar School.
He was active in the famous May 1968 student occupation in London. In the 1980s, he ran the NUM Pontypridd office which co-ordinated the South Wales miners’ efforts during the UK Miners’ Strike.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Kim Howells to Pontypridd Library. I hope many people will come along and enjoy hearing anecdotes from his career.”
The Audience with Kim Howells is the latest in a series of talks by people with a Pontypridd connection hosted at Pontypridd Library. The season ends on Tuesday, March 2, 2011 with an Audience with Phil Davies, rugby player and author, from 5-7pm.
