I was having a quiet beer with an old friend last night when the subject of Andy Powell’s post-match antics came up in conversation.
I told him that I’d received press releases (as one of the editors of Welsh Icons) from both the Welsh Rugby Union and Cardiff Blues condemning has behaviour and distancing themselves from him.
I added that I could see myself doing the same thing in the circumstances. His response was that Powell’s actions were irresponsible and dangerous which I though to be a strange response until I remembered that neither of us are as young as we were a few decades ago and some people ‘grow up’.
It was therefore pleasing to discover this afternoon that a Facebook group called the “Andy Powell Appreciation Society For Driving A Golf Buggy On The M4” now has over 66,000 members and that I’m not alone in finding the incident amusing.
Welsh Icons do not condone the ‘borrowing’ of golf buggy’s, driving on the M4 whilst under the influence or drugs or alcohol even if you have played in on of the most exciting games of rugby ever seen and are in need of a good breakfast.
