Andy Elliott, Angle’s new full time Coxswain, and the volunteer lifeboat crew had an early morning wake up call on Tuesday morning as HM Coastguard requested Mark Mason the RNLI Tamar class lifeboat to launch to a broken down fishing vessel. This was Andy’s first shout at Angle since starting his appointment in September.
Angle’s volunteer lifeboat crew were requested to launch at 5am Tuesday morning to a fishing vessel that had fouled her propeller on her nets 7 miles south of St Govan’s Head.
The volunteer lifeboat crew arrived on scene at around 6am and a tow was passed. The action of towing was sufficient to dislodge the net from its position, and the crew on the trawler were able to cut a wire to free the remainder of the net. The skipper tested his machinery and was happy to resume fishing, and the lifeboat was cleared to return to station at 7am.
The Mark Mason arrived back on station just before 8:30am were she was refuelled ready for the next service.
