Two call-outs within 19 hours saw RNLI Angle’s Tamar class all-weather lifeboat tow a fishing vessel and yacht to safety.
The lifeboat, Mark Mason, was first paged at 12.19 pm on Tuesday (20 September) to assist a 46ft fishing vessel with mechanical failure 28 miles from St Anne’s Head in the direction of Lundy Island.
The lifeboat was at sea for nearly eight hours with a tow being passed to the fishing vessel, which was brought to Milford for repairs.
The second call-out came at 6.34 am on Wednesday (21 September) after a 10m yacht became trapped by the rope of a pot buoy 2.5 miles south of St Govan’s Head.
In a difficult operation, in which the lifeboat’s Y-boat and a crabbing vessel assisted, the yacht was eventually cut free and towed, by the lifeboat, to the pontoon at Dale on the Milford Haven Waterway.
The lifeboat returned to her station at 1.15pm, with the crew heading for the village’s Hibernia Inn to enjoy a delayed, but hearty, breakfast.
So far this year the station’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats have been launched on service 43 times – three more than for the whole of 2010.
