Anglesey elects new Council Chairman

The Isle of Anglesey County Council has elected Councillor Selwyn Williams as its Chairman for 2010/11.

Cllr Williams has served the ward of Tysilio in Menai Bridge on the County Council since May 2008.

Speaking after his election, Cllr Williams said, “I’d like to thank the County Council for bestowing me with this honour. I look forward to a year in office and undertaking my civic duties whilst representing this Authority and the Isle of Anglesey.”

“I’d especially like to thank outgoing Chairman, Cllr O Glyn Jones, and his wife Morwena, for their support during my time as his vice-chair and wish them well in the future.”

Selwyn Williams is currently the Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) on Anglesey. He is Vice-Chairman of the North Wales and Chester Region and also sits on the All Wales Policy Board for the FSB.

Cllr Williams’ nominated charities during his year in office will be Wales Air Ambulance, Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Alaw Ward and Help for Heroes.

Cllr Gwilym O Jones (Llanfair-Yn-Neubwll ward) was elected as vice chairman for 2010/11.
