Mr Richard Parry Jones has been confirmed as the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s new interim chief executive and will take up the role on May 1st 2011.
Currently the Authority’s Corporate Director of Education and Leisure, Mr Jones’ appointment has received Ministerial approval after his name was unanimously endorsed by Anglesey’s new Commissioners.
Speaking on behalf of Anglesey’s Commissioners, Mick Giannasi, said, “We’re naturally delighted that Richard Parry Jones has accepted the role.”
“As new interim chief executive, Richard will provide the continuity and stability needed here. He is greatly respected by staff and members alike as well as amongst his peers for his sterling service in the field of education over many years. As Commissioners, we have also been particularly impressed with his positive approach to collaborative working in education across North Wales.”
He added, “We all look forward to working along side Richard during the next 12 months to improve corporate governance and capacity within the Authority and ensure we continue to provide good quality services.”
Richard Parry Jones is one of the longest serving Directors of Education in Wales and will succeed current interim managing director, David Bowles, who leaves the Authority on April 30th.
He said, “I look forward to working with the Commissioners, councillors and staff to move the Authority forward and ensure sustainable recovery. Many challenges lie ahead, not least addressing future budget pressures, but we must now continue to focus on delivering high quality services on behalf of the people of Anglesey.”
On May 12th, the Full Council will be asked to re-designate the post of managing director as chief executive, and to approve terms and conditions for the role.
