Angling for success in Swansea contest

Fishermen, women and children will be lining the shores of the lakes of Llansamlet next month with the return of the annual Swansea Angling Festival.

The two-day angling extravaganza will take place on July 17 and July 18 and is open to anyone hooked on angling, regardless of ability.

The event is made up of a senior competition and junior contest for children and young people under 16.

The junior contest is being held on Saturday July 17at the Half Round Pond in Llansamlet. The draw is at 9.30am with the fishing taking place between 10.30am and 1.30pm.

The senior competition takes place on Sunday 18 July at the Fendrod Lake. The draw is at 9am with the main competition taking place between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

And as well as battling it out for the right to call themselves Swansea Angling Champion of 2010, there are some fabulous prizes on offer

Christine Johns, Swansea Council’s Parks Lettings and Foreshore Manager, hopes for another successful festival.

She said: “Over the past few years the festival has developed into one of the premier competitions of its kind in Wales. It’s proving popular with anglers of all ages.”

Places are limited and entry tickets are available from Mainwarings Angling Centre in Sketty.  Entry is £2.00 for juniors and £4.00 for adults.  Tickets can also be purchased on the day.
