Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones, has been unanimously re-selected by her local Constituency Labour Party as their candidate for the 2016 Assembly elections.
Ms Jones said: “I am honoured and humbled to have been re-selected by my local party to fight once again for the Vale of Clwyd at the next Assembly election.
“Over the past fifteen years, Welsh Labour in government has delivered so much for the people in the Vale of Clwyd and across Wales such as free prescriptions, free bus passes, keeping the EMA and capping student fees.
“Locally, the Welsh Labour Government have delivered on a brand new emergency quadrant at Glan Clwyd hospital; a new build for Rhyl High School and quality refurbishments to other local schools; a multi-million pound housing scheme – regenerating Rhyl’s West End; a youth hub in Denbigh and securing the former Hotpoint site at Bodelwyddan to create additional jobs. I am pleased with what we has been achieved and I know there is more to do.
“I believe that these achievements have been down to the strong working relationship I have with our local MP, Chris Ruane and local Labour councillors. Our ability as local MP and AM to speak up and out for our residents both in Westminster and in Cardiff has meant we have been able to secure these investments for our area.
“The Vale of Clwyd needs this strong representation and we must continue to build on the successes that have come from Cardiff over the past fifteen years. I look forward with the support of the local electorate to continue to see our local economy go from strength to strength, our young people succeed and our communities become more vibrant and prosperous. I will continue to be that strong voice, standing up for all the people of the Vale of Clwyd as I have had the privilege to do since 1999.”
Ann was first elected as Assembly Member for the Vale of Clwyd in the inaugural elections in 1999 and has been successfully re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. A senior Labour AM, she has been Chair of the Assembly’s Labour Group since 2011 and has chaired a number of cross-party committees, most recently the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
Ann was born, brought up and has always lived in Rhyl, the largest town in the constituency.
