Monmouthshire students have once again excelled in A Level examinations. Results published today show that 98.1% of our students taking the WJEC examination at A Level passed with grades A – E. This exceeds the Welsh average of 97.1%.
And 6.4% of Monmouthshire entries gained the new A* grade, which was introduced this year for exceptional candidates. 25.7% of all our A Level entries were awarded either an A* or A grade, against the Welsh Average of 24.4%. The pass rate at AS level again remained high with both A and A – E pass rates above the Welsh average.
County Councillor Liz Hacket Pain, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“I am absolutely delighted with the results achieved by our students and I wish them well for the future. Once again pass rates in Monmouthshire have proved to be excellent. I am particularly encouraged by the significant increase in the number of entries and passes reflecting the increased numbers of young people who will have access to higher education as a result. All those involved – parents, teachers and particularly students – can be really proud of their efforts. As am I”.
