A week-long operation to tackle anti social behaviour has been launched today by Merthyr Tydfil Community Safety Partnership.
Operation Delta will involve members of different agencies including South Wales Police, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, British Transport Police, and the Youth Outreach Service, working together to reduce anti-social behaviour.
On Friday evening more than 60 representatives from the police, local authority, VOSA, licensing, trading standards, the fire service, youth workers and environmental health were out in force in hotspots areas where residents have raised concerns.
Any intoxicated young people will be taken to a mobile station outside Tesco for social service and anti social behaviour order referrals. Parents will also be contacted.
Sergeant Richie Gardner, from South Wales Police, said: “The aim of the operation is to ensure that we as a partnership are in the right places at the right times to deal with all issues and send a clear message to all communities across Merthyr Tydfil that anti social behaviour will not be tolerated.
“We hope this reassures residents that Merthyr Tydfil Community Safer Partnership is committing to making the borough an ever better and an even safer place to live, work and visit.
“We have listened to concerns, often raised in PACT meetings, and this operation is all about improving quality of life for Merthyr residents.”
One of the first activities took place today with a truancy operation. A total of 25 truants were found and 21 of these were returned to school.
Operation Delta will also focus on abandoned vehicles, littering, noise, and begging.
Beverly Owen, Community Safety Manager at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, speaking on behalf of Merthyr’s Community Safety Partnership said:
“Merthyr Tydfil Community Safety Partnership is pleased to lead this week-long programme of partnership activities to tackle anti-social behaviour. Many organisations within the County Borough contribute positively to the partnership’s efforts to make communities safer on a weekly basis.
