Rookwood Hospital and the PROP Appeal will be helping patients feel cooler this summer, through funding awarded by St David’s shopping centre, Cardiff.
ARISE (the Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise) Cardiff was set up by St David’s in 2012, and is a funding programme that provides financial support for projects across the city. The initiative is designed to give assistance to activities that benefit the local community, providing an opportunity for grass-roots organisations to apply for up to £1,000 for projects that have a positive impact on society.
The PROP Appeal at Rookwood Hospital, which supports brain injury rehab, applied to the fund and was lucky enough to be awarded nearly £1,000 and will be using the money to purchase three Dyson hot and cold fans for use on the brain injury ward.
James Biggs, Ward Manager at Rookwood Hospital said: “The fans that we’ve purchased from the ARISE funding are vital, as the temperature on the ward becomes very hot and very cold throughout the year. Some of our patients with brain injuries can find it very difficult to regulate their body temperature, so the fans will make a massive difference to the comfort of those in our care.”
Mark Nott, St David’s centre manager said: “ARISE gives local organisations the opportunity to obtain additional support for initiatives that have a positive impact on society, and we’re thrilled to be able to support Rookwood Hospital and the PROP Appeal, as well as their patients.”
