Appeal following robbery in Ruthin

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a robbery at the Esso Garage in Ruthin last night (Wednesday, December 29).

Just before 8.50pm two masked men entered the garage on Denbigh Road and ordered the two members of staff present to go into the back room.

Both of the men were described as wearing dark clothing and were wearing ski masks. One of the offenders was believed to have been in possession of a handgun and it is unknown at this time whether the weapon was real or an imitation.

The offenders stole a quantity of cash from the garage and then fled.

The two staff members were not injured during the incident but were left shocked.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Williams said: “Incidents such as these are extremely frightening for the staff and I urge anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity or who may have seen any suspicious vehicles in the area before or just after the time of the robbery to contact Detectives.”

He added: “We want to reassure residents and businesses alike that we have a dedicated team working on the investigation. Following the incident, a search of the area was undertaken involving the NWP helicopter and Crime Scene Investigators have also been working at the scene. House to house inquiries will be continuing today.”

Inquiries are continuing and CCTV footage is being studied as part of the investigation. Detectives investigating are appealing to anyone who has information regarding the incident or anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity before the robbery to contact officers at St Asaph CID on 101 or 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) 0845 6071002 (English language line).
