An appeal is being made following a recent spate of thefts from vehicles in the Colwyn Bay and Abergele area.
Over the last few weeks police have received several reports of incidents whereby vehicles have been broken into and satellite navigation systems have been stolen.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Andy Kirkham said: “Sadly we continue to receive reports of theft from vehicles across the Colwyn Bay and Abergele areas. We need your help in stopping this opportunistic crime by removing all valuables from inside your vehicle. Thieves will not break in to simply look round your vehicle on the off chance, but they will do so when items are left in full view.
“One such desirable item is the Sat Nav, which most people possess these days. Please remove these and keep them safely inside your house after use. It is an invitation to the thief if you are leaving them in full view. I would also urge owners of Sat Navs to make a note of the serial number, which can assist the police greatly in the result of it being taken.”
He added: “Finally if someone offers to sell you a Sat Nav or any other obvious second hand item that raises your suspicion, then we would like to hear from you. Please contact us on 101.”
Anyone with information regarding vehicle crime is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Here are some simple measures which can be taken to help protect your vehicle and deter potential thieves:
- Never leave anything on display in your vehicle; a bag on the bag seat is enough to tempt a thief
- Remove all belongings including bags, lock them in your boot
- Always remove your portable sat nav system including any support cradles and suction pads that are fitted to the windscreen. If you can’t take it with you lock it safely in your boot
- When you leave your car, close all windows including your sunroof and ensure your car has been locked
- Never leave credit cards or cheque books in the glove compartment and don’t leave the vehicle documents in the car
- Mark items such as CD players and sat nav systems with your postcode or vehicle registration using a special security marker. Your local Neighbourhood Police Team are available to assist you
