Appeal for information following burglary, Shirenewton and subsequent collision

Police are appealing for information following a burglary and subsequent collision that occurred yesterday.

Police attended an address in Shirenewton following a report of a burglary at the premises at approximately 10.20am. The occupiers reported the suspects  – two men in a Grey Landrover Discovery – had made off from the scene.

At approximately 10.40am, the vehicle was sighted by officers in the Usk town centre area, travelling in the direction of the fire station toward Usk Village  and then towards Caerleon Road and then towards Llandegfedd reservoir area. Once the vehicle had reached Coed y paen, on seeing a police vehicle in front of it, the Landrover reversed and collided with a police vehicle behind it. The police vehicle had one officer in it, who was taken to hospital but released without treatment.

The two males, aged 38 and 40 from the Pontypool area have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dwelling burglary and dangerous driving and are currently in custody.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle at any time, or the actual collision, to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
