Police are appealing for information following a report of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Sunday morning (December 12th, 2010).
The victim, a 32 year old woman from the Rogerstone area, flagged down a car between 12.45am and 1am on High Street Caerleon. She was picked up and driven to a secluded area where she was assaulted. She was then dropped off at her home address.
Police are appealing for anyone who was on High Street, Caerleon at the relevant time, particularly in the vicinity of Boleros and may have seen a lone woman getting into a car; for anyone getting a taxi on High Street at that time; or for any taxi drivers who were picking up in the area and may have seen something relevant to get in touch with them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Police would like to take this opportunity to remind women going out this Christmas to keep themselves as safe as possible by always pre-arranging a lift or booking a taxi with a licensed and regulated taxi company. Always stick to their plans to get home and stay with their friends. If they do find themselves alone at the end of the night use CABSAFE by texting CAB to 83222 to receive a text with the numbers of three local licensed and regulated taxi companies who have agreed to prioritise lone females.
