Apprentices are Key to the North Wales Economy says MP

ApprenticeshipsApprenticeships are a vital tool for boosting the number of skilled workers in the North Wales economy, an MP has said.

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas is backing National Apprenticeship Week, which runs until Friday, and recently met with Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna in Westminster to discuss the key role apprentices play.

Mr Lucas has long been a supporter of apprenticeships, and has met apprentices both at Wrexham colleges and in businesses across North East Wales.

He said: “Many of North East Wales’ manufacturing companies are fully aware of the value of apprentices – and those apprentices I have met are aware of the value of their roles too.

“Making sure that the next generation of our workforce is equipped with the kind of skills they need to succeed is hugely important – for those employees, for the companies who gain a high-quality workforce, and for the skills base in our regional economy.

“Apprenticeships serve a very valuable role, and I am very pleased to support National Apprenticeship Week.”
