A group of architects have raised funds at a charity golf tournament to support an annual wheelchair sports event in Cardiff.
The fundraiser at Cottrell Park Golf Club was hosted by Design Circle and HLM Architects, with co-sponsors EuroBond. Over 50 players including lawyers, engineers, planners, manufacturers and architects teed off to raise money for a good cause.
The Wheelchair Sports Spectacular, an annual two-day event held in Cardiff, is the principle beneficiary and will be given a generous boost of over £600 as a result of the event. The Architects Benevolent Society is the secondary charity who will also be awarded with a cash donation.
The Wheelchair Sports Spectacular aims to encourage people of all ages with disabilities to get active in sport. Each year over 20 sports are on offer such as athletics, table-tennis, wheelchair basketball, karate and golf. The event targets those with a burgeoning talent or who simply want to take part in sport and have fun and provides sporting activities to suit everyone of all ages and ability levels.
The event is supported by Cardiff Council’s sport development team Sport.Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales and is reliant on sponsorship and donations.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Nigel Howells, said: “The Wheelchair Sports Spectacular continues to be a successful event due to the enthusiasm and hard work invested by the teams from Sport.Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales.
“The event relies on people’s generosity and I am grateful to Design Circle and HLM Architects for their donations which will go towards ensuring that adults and children with disabilities have access to sport in Cardiff.”
