Following the amazing success of the V Factor 2009, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People and Cultural Services teams in partnership with Bigfoot Arts are opening the search for the young stars of 2010.
The first V Factor in Rhondda Cynon Taf was a tremendous success. In September 2008 the teams began their search by going into schools promoting the project, identifying talented pupils and preparing them for the after school sessions.
In January 2009 the after school sessions began in comprehensive schools across the County Borough. The response from the young people was excellent.
The sessions, which were run as part of the Council’s award winning E3+ programme, allowed young people to work with professional choreographers, singing tutors, actors and directors and helped them to develop their talents and grow in confidence.
The competition took place over two nights at the Park and Dare Theatre in May 2009. The categories judged were Best Music Act, Best Dance Act, Best Musical Theatre Act, Best Original Song, Best Drama Act and Best Solo Performer. There were also special achievement awards for those that had shown great commitment and improvement during the rehearsal process.
The atmosphere and the audience were wonderful with more than a thousand supporters turning out over the two nights.
The prizes included a workshop with a world street dance champion and choreographer to the world street dance champions, a professionally recorded CD and performances at Ponty’s Big Weekend 2009, which saw the winners performing to crowds in their thousands!
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf is full of immensely talented young people and this is being showcased more and more as a result of the E3+ programme and projects like the V Factor. I am very proud of the young people in our County Borough who are always willing to try and learn new things and always achieve results.
“After the success of last year’s event, I am looking forward to this year’s performances and I’m sure we will be once again blown away by the standard of talent in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The project might be called the Valleys Factor but I think our young people have definitely got the X Factor!”
This year’s competition promises to be even bigger and better than last year, so if you are aged between 11-19, have a talent in performing arts, particularly dance, live music and theatre, we want to hear about it.
If your talent wins you the V Factor crown you could be performing in front of thousands of people as part of the Musical Youth Extravaganza Showcase and become RCT’s ambassadors for youth arts during 2010..
Deadline for application is Friday 16th April 2010.
