The countdown has started to this year’s Big Cheese Festival in Caerphilly (23rd – 25th July) and once again teams of all ages are being invited to take part in one of the highlights of the weekend – The Great Cheese Race!
Teams of four people can enter the relay race, which involves transporting a Caerphilly cheese on a traditional wooden cheese stretcher. The course runs through the main event site and up to the rear of the Castle and crowds will be turning out to cheer on the participants.
Everyone taking part is being encouraged to wear fancy dress, which helps add to the sense of fun! Prizes will be awarded to the race winners as well as those wearing the best costumes.

The Great Cheese Race is followed by an exciting entertainment programme on Friday evening which includes a spectacular fireworks display at 10pm. The festival then gets into full swing throughout Saturday and Sunday.
The Big Cheese Weekend sees Caerphilly comes to life as visitors enjoy an extravaganza of music, living history encampments, dance, a huge funfair, falconry, fire eating, craft stalls, food halls, comedy and much more.
