Arrest in Swansea Mephedrone Investigation

South Wales PolicePolice in Swansea have arrested a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of supplying mephedrone.
 
The arrest was made in the Morriston area on Wednesday afternoon as part of an operation launched after three people were admitted to hospital after taking the drug. The woman is currently on police bail while enquiries continue.

On Tuesday, Public Health Wales issued a warning about the consumption of mephedrone – also known as MCat or meow meow – and the possibility of bacterial contamination of the drug or contamination with a chemical cutting agent.

Acting Detective Inspector David Butt of Swansea Central Police Station said: “We are investigating the supply of mephedrone in the Swansea area following the admission of three people to hospital at the weekend who became very ill after taking the drug.

“As part of this investigation we have arrested a 21-year-old woman who was taken into custody at Swansea Central.

“We are continuing our work to target those involved in the supply of mephedrone and I appeal to anyone with information to contact the police or Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Users of the drug who are experiencing physical and/or psychological problems are encouraged to stop use and seek medical help as soon as possible.
