South Wales Police is appealing for information after a suspicious house fire in Conway Road, Treorchy during the early hours of Monday morning.
Police officers attended along with the fire service to discover the back door of a residential property had been set alight at around 4.43am today (July 4th 2011).
A 23 year-old woman and two boys, aged 8 and 9, managed to get out of the house without getting injured.
Following a crime scene investigation is believed that an accelerant – possibly petrol – was used in the attack.
DI Andy Jones said, “A woman and two young children are very lucky to have escaped serious injury. The property targeted housed three innocent and very vulnerable people at the time of the incident, and I am extremely concerned as to why anybody would want to do this.
“Those people responsible would probably have gained access around the rear of the property via a back lane, so anybody who may have noticed anything suspicious is urged to contact Porth Police Station via 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
