An exhibition has gone on display at the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s art space, Art Central, celebrating works by a group of local artists from the Penarth and Sully areas.
‘Art 4 All’ brings together the works of artists Peggy Davies, Martin Harvey, Anne Williams, Brenda Shepherd and Lois Start. Between them, the artists have sold their work locally and across the globe and have a wealth of talent under their belts.
Working in a variety of mediums including acrylics, oils, pastels and more, the artists’ exhibition covers influences such as costumes and dance, nature and the landscape.
As well as exhibiting her paintings, Brenda Shepherd teaches art classes on world cruises and runs her own painting group in Penarth. She said: “My style and chosen subjects for my pictures are very different. The pureness and subtleness of watercolour and the exotic vibrancy of acrylics and water–based oils all bring, I believe, exciting dimensions to my work.”
As well as the Art 4 All exhibition, Art Central is also currently displaying entries received in the Vale’s first open art competition – ‘Spirit of Winter’. All entries have been submitted by local artists and range from amateur to professional level. Works on show range from mosaics and watercolours to sculptures and ceramics and members of the public are invited to join in and vote for their favourite piece before 4pm on Thursday, 17 December, with the winning entry in each category receiving a £100 prize.
There will be an opportunity to purchase some of the art on show from both exhibitions, so why not pop in and find a unique Christmas present.
Art Central is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm, at King Square, Barry and entry is free.
