Artist blacksmiths, father and son Gary and Thomas Thrussell have been commissioned to design, make and erect an obelisk depicting Stanley’s humble beginnings in the St Asaph workhouse.
From the workhouse and through his life as a reporter, explorer and MP, the piece will commemorate the triumph of determination and human spirit to overcome and succeed against the odds, stoic qualities which could have undoubtedly been formed in Stanley’s character during his time in St Asaph.
Thrussell and Thrussell will be holding an Artists Open Access workshop on Tuesday, 12 October in the Community and Council Meeting Room, Roe Plas Meadow, St Asaph, from 12:30pm – 2pm and 3pm-4pm. Local school groups are booked in from 10am to 12noon and from 2pm to 3pm.
All are welcome and anyone interested in having a go at some designs for the piece or just talking to the artists, can just drop in at their convenience.
