Shadow Minister for Equality Mohammad Asghar highlighted the benefits of reducing the Severn Bridge tolls in the Senedd on Wednesday.
Mr Asghar, who represents the South Wales East region, said: “I feel passionately that the ever-increasing toll over the years has not been beneficial for Wales.
“A detailed exploration of its impact is needed to confirm my beliefs.
“The toll has an impact on a number of areas … such as the economy, business, employment (and) tourism.
“Young graduates or school leavers may be deterred from seeking employment solutions over the bridge if they face a £5.50 toll every single day. Employees (paying the toll) have to fork out around £1,500 a year to cross the bridge.”
Mr Asghar called upon the Welsh Assembly Government “to undertake a full and proper economic impact assessment into the effect of the toll”.
He added: “Norman Baker, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, has confirmed that he would welcome such information from the Welsh Assembly Government. I hope that such an assessment can be undertaken and that appropriate representations can be made.”
