National Assembly Member Mohammad Asghar has expressed concern at reports that items of produce have been mis-advertised as “Welsh” by hospitality providers.
Speaking in the Senedd on Wednesday, Mr Asghar said: “I am concerned to read reports of produce being routinely mis-sold … on menus in our restaurants, pubs and cafes.
“A trading standards probe has found that lamb in particular is being routinely advertised incorrectly as Welsh on menus”.
Mr Asghar asked the Minister for Rural Affairs what plans she had to “encourage service providers to stock genuine Welsh produce” particularly due to the fact that “the local sourcing of food and drink is one of the stated priorities of the Welsh Assembly Government”.
