Speaking following the announcement of 70 job losses at Tata Steel’s Llanwern site in Newport, South Wales East AM Mohammad Asghar said:
“This is very grim news for Newport and for the Welsh economy as a whole.
“The Welsh Government must provide all support possible for the 70 people set to lose their jobs and to their families.
“Tata Steel is a world-renowned company; so the loss of these jobs is deeply regrettable.
“Only this week, we debated in the Senedd the importance of the Welsh Government creating a framework which will allow the private sector to thrive to stimulate job creation.
“This development is further evidence of the desperate need for the Welsh Government to take action; particularly given the state of the manufacturing industry in Wales”.
