Asghar demands answers on WAG’s plans for blind and partially sighted passengers

Minister for Heritage & Equality Mohammad Asghar has called on the Assembly Government to confirm the support it intends to offer blind and partially sighted passengers using Welsh buses.

Speaking in the Senedd on Wednesday, Mr Asghar said: “I have regularly highlighted the benefit of cost-effective audible announcements on Welsh buses, which would make journeys easier and less stressful for blind and partially sighted passengers”.

He told the Minister: “Last year, you said that your officials were looking closely at this. In November, you said that a best practice guide for passengers with sight problems would be published in December, and, in February, you said that it would be published in the spring”.

The South Wales East AM added that whilst responsibility “ultimately lies with service providers”; he feels “it is imperative that the Assembly Government uses its position to emphasise the importance of this issue”.

Mr Asghar called on the Deputy First Minister to “provide an update, particularly on the best practice guide”.
