Mohammad Asghar, National Assembly Member for South Wales East, has expressed disappointment at news that a decision on the opening of a direct rail link between Ebbw Vale and Newport has been delayed until at least the autumn.
The South Wales East AM has lobbied the Welsh Government continuously on the issue, highlighting the importance of the proposed rail link.
The Shadow Minister for Equalities & Sport said: “I wrote to the Minister on this issue only last week as I understand that the Welsh Government has now received a Guide to Railway Investment Project Stage 3 Report from Network Rail.
“I am concerned by reports suggesting we will not hear an announcement until the autumn. This project is so important for the Gwent area and the delays are causing considerable frustration to many of my constituents.
“Given that it was announced in 2008 that this service would be operational in time for the 2010 Ryder Cup, the continual delays are staggering and represent the Welsh Government doing South East Wales a great disservice”.
