Asghar: Holly Lodge post box must be returned now

National Assembly Member Mohammad Asghar has joined residents in Cwmbran in signing a petition against the removal of a post box on Holly Lodge Road, Croesyceiliog.

The post box disappeared at the beginning of Autumn 2009 after electrical works were carried out on an adjacent lighting column.

Mr Asghar, who represents the South Wales East region, said: “I was so impressed by the community unity shown by the residents and it is clear how much this important issue means to local people. I met over thirty local people and am delighted to support their case.

“The residents had been told they’d have to wait 12 weeks for a replacement post box – and that was 17 weeks ago. It has become particularly difficult for many elderly and disabled residents who now face at least a fifteen minute walk to post mail.

“Ironically, the residents told me that the postman still comes along Holly Lodge Road each morning and that the missing box is still on his list!”

After visiting residents, Mr Asghar visited the local Post Office in Croesyceiliog. He was informed that the post box was at the Office but that permission was yet to be granted for it to be reinstated.

Mr Asghar added: “I am worried that there is a lack of understanding about how important this is for local residents. The simple job of reinstating this post box on Holly Lodge Road must be completed now.”
