Asghar: Olympic Games coming to Wales in just 300 days – but Welsh Government continue to do nothing

With only 300 days to go until Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium hosts the first event of the 2012 Olympic Games, Mohammad Asghar AM has questioned the Welsh Government’s inaction.

On July 25th, Cardiff plays host to Olympic football – some two days before the opening ceremony in London.

However, despite the prestige of hosting the first event of the eagerly-anticipated Games, Mr Asghar is confused by the Welsh Government’s idleness in taking steps to seize the associated benefits.

The South Wales East AM said: “In 300 days, the eyes of the world should be on Wales as we host the very first event of the Olympic Games.

“I was shocked to discover recently that the First Minister has held no meetings during the Fourth Assembly regarding how Wales can benefit from this great honour.

“There are no strategies in place aimed at seizing the benefits which the UK Olympics offers Wales – from increasing sports participation to boosting tourism and enterprise.

“It is a great disappointment that the Welsh Government is letting such fantastic opportunities slip by”.
