Mohammad Asghar, Shadow Minister for Equalities & Sport, has signed a petition against the closure of a HSBC branch on Caerleon Road in Newport.
The South Wales East AM has offered his support to local resident Eric Channing, who set-up the petition.
Mr Asghar said: “I am very concerned at the impact this closure will have on many of my constituents.
“Whilst I was chatting to Mr Channing, he surpassed 3,000 signatures on his petition. That indicates how strongly people feel about the bank maintaining its presence on Caerleon Road.
“I have written to HSBC to urge them to reconsider this decision”.
