Shadow Minister for Equality Mohammad Asghar has welcomed news that Gwent patients requiring angioplasty will soon be able to receive treatment at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
Mr Asghar, who represents the South Wales East region, said: “I have long wanted to see an improvement in the cardiology services offered in Gwent, so I really welcome this development.
“The previous situation – which meant patients often had to wait 14 days to be transferred to Cardiff – was unacceptable.
“I have heard from constituents who have highlighted the frustration and distress this has caused; so it is good news angioplasty treatment is to be offered at the Royal Gwent.
“This development means that patients can get treatment carried out by the same team who diagnosed them. This will ensure that many patients feel a lot less uncertainty”.
