National Assembly Member Mohammad Asghar has extended a warm welcome to players, guests and visitors as Newport prepares to host the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The much-anticipated event tees off on Friday at the Celtic Manor Resort.
The South Wales East AM said: “This is the first time in Ryder Cup history that the tournament has come to Wales.
“The competition provides an amazing opportunity to promote Newport and Wales to the whole world.
“There is a tremendous buzz around the city. Newport City Council and others have put so much effort into preparations and it is amazing to think the tee-off is now almost upon us.
“It’s such a proud moment for Newport to be hosting the third biggest televised sporting event in the world. I am delighted to welcome all players, guests and tourists to the event – and hope they get the opportunity to see what Newport and Wales has to offer – and, of course, I wish every best wish to the European team!”
