Mohammad Asghar, National Assembly Member for South Wales East, has warned the Welsh Government not to let unique opportunities provided by the 2012 Olympic Games to pass by.
Questioning the First Minister on Tuesday, Mr Asghar highlighted how “Wales will be hosting the opening event of next year’s Games”.
He added: “4,700 Olympic medals will be produced in Llantrisant and a number of Olympic teams will base their training camps in Wales ahead of the Games”.
The Shadow Minister for Equalities & Sport believes that such steps will “put the Olympic Games on the doorsteps of many people in Wales” and “provides opportunities that the Welsh Government cannot let pass by”.
He urged the Welsh Government to “utilise these opportunities for promoting sports participation to the people of Wales” – and asked how the First Minister was working “with Sport Wales and other stakeholders to realise this potential”.
