South Wales Police is appealing for information after a male with a firearm attempted to rob the Turtle Beech store on Bute Street in Treherbet, on Sunday evening (January 9).
A young man entered the store at around 7.40pm and demanded money from the shopkeeper, making threats with a firearm.
When the shop worker refused to hand over any money, the man made off.
The man, believed to be in his mid to late teens, is described as being white, with a slim build and a local accent. He wore a dark coloured hooded top with jeans and white trainers.
DI Andy Jones said: “This incident is very rare, and there is nothing at this stage to tell us the firearm was actually real. It is highly likely that it was an imitation weapon, so people should not be alarmed.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area between 7.30pm and 8pm.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Rhondda CID via 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
