The outstanding work undertaken in Gwynedd on the innovative Incredible Years programme has been recognised at a national awards ceremony.
The tenth annual Incredible Years Wales awards saw Ysgol Bro Lleu headteacher, Stella Gruffydd and Caernarfon nursery staff from Cylch Meithrin Maesincla and Cylch Meithrin Seiont a Pheblig securing awards.
Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfed Edwards said: “As a Council, we are committed to ensuring that our children and young people receive the best possible start in life. Making the best use of new and creative programmes such as ‘Incredible Years’ is key to this commitment, and I am delighted that Gwynedd is leading the way on this important agenda.
“I know from my experience as a school governor at Ysgol Bro Lleu that the Incredible Years programme can make a hugely positive contribution to the lives of children and families. The work undertaken by Stella Gruffydd and the staff, parents and pupils at Ysgol Bro Lleu is truly inspiring. Many congratulations to all Gwynedd winners in the recent awards ceremony.”
Councillor Liz Saville Roberts, who leads on Education for Gwynedd Council said: “Gwynedd was amongst the very first councils in the UK to introduce this innovative programme which helps to secure a positive learning environment for our youngest pupils.
“The scheme makes the most of a range of creative ways of developing good behaviour and improving children’s social skills. This includes training teachers and educators to use role play to encourage children to express their views and to work together. It’s wonderful to see that this excellent work has received national recognition.”
Stella Gruffudd of Ysgol Bro Lleu, Penygroes, was awarded as an “Incredible Headteacher”. She established classroom management, and introduced a parent programme in the school with more than 40% of parents attending the programme.
Caernarfon Nursery staff from Cylch Meithrin Maesincla and Cylch Meithrin Seiont a Pheblig were awarded as “Incredible Nursery Staff”.
