A team set up to tackle youth crime in Blaenau Ffestiniog has scooped a top award at a prestigious award ceremony.
The Blaenau Ffestiniog Youth Panel was selected as a winner at the 2009 North Wales Volunteer and Community Justice Awards.
The 2009 North Wales Volunteer and Community Justice Awards recognises teams and individuals across the Criminal Justice System who have gone the extra mile to deliver justice and the Blaenau Ffestiniog Youth Panel team won the top prize in the ‘Outstanding contribution to engage local communities and improving public confidence in the North Wales Criminal Justice System’ category. Almost 60 nominations were submitted and the winners were presented with their award at a prestigious ceremony at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on 3 November.
The Youth Panel was set up to tackle youth crime and anti social behaviour by responding to identified problems with youths in the community by working together with them and their parents.
Ed Beltrami, Chairman of the North Wales Criminal Justice Board said: “On behalf of the Board I would like to congratulate the team. We are incredibly proud of the Blaenau Ffestiniog Youth Panel. They all work extremely hard and are truly inspiring and a shining example of the dedication that exists amongst the staff and volunteers that work in the Criminal Justice System in North Wales.”
The Attorney General, Baroness Scotland QC said: “Our commitment to deliver a more effective, transparent and responsive Criminal Justice System relies on the 400,000 staff and volunteers at the frontline. Local Justice Awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the excellent work that is already taking place.”
