A Gwynedd care worker has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the lives of vulnerable people in his own community.
Alan Brace Jones, 54, from Blaenau Ffestiniog was honoured with the bronze award in the Leading Practice in Learning Disability Service Award at the annual Wales Care Awards, held at a recent glitzy Cardiff ceremony.
Alan works at Uned ‘Stiniog at Llanffestiniog, a Gwynedd Council run unit which provides therapeutic support for adults with learning disability. He leads a team of support workers who care for a small of group of people who have learning disabilities.
Uned ‘Stiniog provides activities that the people attending may not otherwise have access to, such as swimming, walking and ten pin bowling.
“I love helping people,” said Alan.
He added: “You must have a lot of patience but it is very rewarding work. We have a really good team here. I see the nomination as being for them as well.”
Councillor Eric Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Provider Service Portfolio Holder, said: “I’m delighted to hear of Alan’s success and am very proud that he has been recognised by the Wales Care Awards.
“Everyone who comes into contact with Alan, from colleagues to the families of those in his care, says he is a very diligent worker and is more than willing to go that extra mile to ensure that the people he supports can enjoy every opportunity in life.
“I also congratulate the staff that work alongside Alan, and who also give their all to support the vulnerable adults in their care.”
Alan, a former forestry worker, has also managed football teams at Blaenau Ffestiniog and been a youth club leader.
