The Leader of Gwynedd Council has won a prestigious national award.
Councillor Dyfed Edwards was named Local Politician of the Year in the Wales Yearbook Welsh Politician of the Year Awards.
The ceremony and gala dinner was held at Cardiff City Hall last week and televised by ITV Wales.
The Welsh Politician of the Year awards recognise the contribution of MPs, MEPs, AMs, local politicians and activists to particular initiatives, committee work, persistent scrutiny, articulation of a constituency or local matter or a combination of all these activities over the past 12 months.
Councillor Dyfed Edwards said:
“This award is an honour for the whole of Gwynedd Council – for the officers as well as members of all parties, and is recognition that we are determined to make a difference to the lives of the people of Gwynedd during very challenging times.”
Chairman of Gwynedd Council, Councillor Anne Lloyd-Jones, said:
“On behalf of Gwynedd Council I wish to congratulate Councillor Dyfed Edwards for winning this award. This is a reflection of his dedication and hard work and I’m delighted that this award will highlight the work going on here in Gwynedd.”
Councillor Edwards was recognised by the judging panel for his leadership skills.
Other recipients of the award this year were the new First Minister Carwyn Jones AM (Welsh Politician of the Year); David Melding AM (Member to Watch); Albert Owen MP (Campaigner of the Year); Paul Flynn MP (MP of the Year); and Elin Jones AM (AM of the Year).
