Jim Phillips, RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer at St Davids has been awarded for raising awareness of the work of the RNLI since 1998. Jim has been presented with a miniature statuette in recognition of over 10 years of hard work and dedication.
As Lifeboat Press Officer, Jim has excelled at promoting the work of the Pembrokeshire lifeboat station through the local media. When the station’s inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats are launched on rescue missions, he quickly makes a judgement on which media to contact and deals with enquiries. Through building and maintaining friendly relationships with the local representatives of the press, radio and television, he ensures the lifeboat station always hits the headlines.
As a charity, the RNLI relies on voluntary contributions and legacies for income, so raising awareness of the work of volunteer lifeboat crews is essential.
Colin Williams, RNLI Divisional Inspector of Lifeboats for the West, who presented Jim with his statuette of a lifeboatman says:
‘Jim Phillips has been extremely diligent in his voluntary role as the Lifeboat Press Officer at St Davids for over ten years. During this period he has developed many personal contacts within the local and national media fraternity to assist him with prompt reporting upon both rescues and fundraising events at this busy Pembrokeshire RNLI lifeboat station.
‘Jim’s tremendous dedication as an RNLI honorary official has been recognised by the charity with the award of a miniature statuette of a lifeboatman.’
