Back to the Victorian Heyday at Cardiff Castle

What did the Victorians ever do for us? Well, for Cardiff Castle they were responsible for the most amazing make-over the site has ever seen.

The iconic Clock Tower was built, fairytale towers were added and the interiors were transformed with the most elaborate and sumptuous decoration.  The enormous influence the Victorians had on the development of Cardiff Castle will be celebrated on Saturday 3 September in a special Victorian Day event from 10am – 5pm.

Characters from history will be strolling the grounds, including Lord Bute and the genius architect, William Burges, who was responsible for the grand plans that transformed Cardiff Castle into a Welsh Victorian Camelot. Within the house, the maids and butlers will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of Queen Victoria.

Throughout the day there will Victorian parlour games for children, croquet on the lawn, a magic lantern show and brass band music to conjure up the atmosphere of this bygone era.   Free entry if you come in costume yourself, plus there will be a prize for the best adult and child’s outfit.

Normal admission applies to the Castle, but there is a special events ticket available if visitors just want to stroll around the grounds during Victorian Day. Additional charge for some activities.  Remember, if you have a Cardiff Castle Key or a Cardiff Castle Season Ticket admission to this event will be free.
