Gwent Archives will host a free lecture at its Ebbw Vale offices examining the war memorials of South Wales on Saturday 14th June from 1 to 3pm.
The talk by Dr Lester Mason of University of Wales will explain why World War I changed the way communities remembered their dead. Dr Mason will also reveal the arguments surrounding war memorials and clarify the meaning of the different symbols seen on these monuments in today’s towns and cities.
Blaenau Gwent Heritage Officer Emyr Morgan will follow Dr Mason by giving a short talk on Blaenau Gwent in World War I.
