Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has demonstrated her support for a cancer charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Macmillan Cancer Support events took place across the UK last Friday (27 September) and encourage individuals, groups, organisations and companies to hold coffee mornings, with all financial contributions on the day donated to the charity.
Local AM Griffiths attended an event in Cardiff highlighting the cause earlier in the week, as well as attending a coffee morning event on the day at Glyndwr University.
Now in its 23rd year, World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised £15 million for Macmillan last year alone. This enabled the charity to spend £3.2m on its services in Wales, including funding for nurses and providing £545,000 in grants to people affected by cancer.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths commented:
“Glyndwr University’s Macmillan event was a great success and it was wonderful to hear so many other people in Wrexham got involved with the fundraiser and arranged and participated in their own coffee mornings.”
“All the money raised will finance cancer services in Wales and Macmillan is constantly working with the Welsh Government and various other organisations to improve standards in cancer care.”
“According to the charity, more than 18,000 people receive a cancer diagnosis in Wales every year so fundraisers such as the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning are vital to ensure Macmillan carries on providing the medical, practical, financial and emotional support to those in need.”
