Pupils from a Bangor school have been awarded for their good citizenship after helping an elderly woman who had fallen whilst out in her garden.
Back in December the four pupils – Jade Mary Davies, Jamie Williams, Cameron Briscall-James and Adele Williams were walking home from school when they came across the woman who had fallen whilst gardening and immediately came to her rescue.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, said of the Year 9 and 10 pupils:
“The four came to my help immediately. With spontaneous concern for my well-being, they got me up and helped me into the house before finishing off my gardening – bringing all the cuttings in, collecting the garden tools and sweeping the area. The two young girls even offered to bring in my washing from the line.
“They were absolutely superb and are a credit to Ysgol Friars.”
In honour of their exceptional display of good citizenship the four received certificates at a recent School Presentation Evening, presented by their School Community Police Officer, PC Neil Williams on behalf of North Wales Police. They also received cinema vouchers as part of their prize.
PC Neil Williams said:
“It was an honour to present the pupils with their certificates and all four should be really proud of themselves.
“Positive feedback helps increase self-confidence, instils a sense of pride in achievements and encourages people to become better citizens.
“I’d like to congratulate all four pupils for their admirable behaviour and wish them well for the future.”
Ysgol Friars Headteacher, Mr Neil Foden said:
“We are really proud that our pupils were prepared to offer help when someone needed, a shining example of community spirit in action. We try to ensure that our pupils not only know how to do their best academically but also how to become valuable members of their community and we are really pleased to see these four pupils showing just the values we want to encourage.
“As a school, we are very proud of Jamie, Cameron, Jade and Adele.”
