Motorists returning to work after the bank holiday weekend will find two new sections of road have opened as work on the Church Village Bypass continues to make good progress.
First to open, on Friday the 28th of May was the new Efail Isaf Link Road which takes traffic from Heol Creigiau to Efail Isaf. At the same time, Heol Dowlais was closed to through traffic.
Second to open was the new section joining the A473, Llantwit Road at Siop y Coed. The section of road from the traffic lights at the top of Power Station Hill to the Three Horseshoes public house is now one way, west to east; and motorists are urged to take care as they familiarise themselves with the new road layout.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Customer Care and Emergency Planning, Cllr Andrew Morgan said: “The Church Village bypass is the largest road scheme currently being undertaken by any local authority the length and breadth of Britain.
“It is continuing to make good progress and is well on target to open as planned. There has been significant progress in recent weeks and hope residents and commuters alike are already starting to reap the benefits of this work.”
Dan Powrie, Project Manager for Costain said, “Work on the Church Village Bypass continues to make good progress and we are on target to open on schedule in the early Autumn. The next few weeks will see more significant progress as the new road takes shape. We would like to thank the general public for their forbearance and continued support throughout the project.”
