A new bus service running from Morrisons at Barry Waterfront to Marks & Spencer in Culverhouse Cross was officially launched by the Vale of Glamorgan Council on Monday 28 September.
Cllr Jeffrey James, cabinet member for planning and transportation, council planning and transportation officers and Veolia Transport Cymru representatives took a trip on the bus to sample the new route – Service 90 – which runs between Barry and Culverhouse Cross, where they were welcomed by representatives from Marks & Spencer.
The service is funded by a private sector financial contribution, which was made by Marks & Spencer under Section 106 planning obligations secured by the council for the store’s re-development.
Cllr James said: “I am pleased that in the current economic climate the council is able to introduce this new local bus service, which will be of benefit to many new and existing bus users and businesses. In addition to providing a new, regular service it will also benefit locations currently without public transport by connecting the commercial centre of Culverhouse Cross with Pencoedtre, Barry town centre and the Waterfront, while improving access to the new Waterfront surgery.”
The service runs Mondays to Saturdays (excluding Bank Holidays) and departs Barry Waterfront to Culverhouse Cross at five minutes past each hour and Barry Town Centre (Wyndham Street) at 14 minutes past each hour between the hours of 0705 and 1905; returning from Culverhouse Cross (M&S/Tesco bus stop) at 0738, 0838 and then 40 minutes past each hour between 0940 and 1940.
Timetables are available at various locations including the Dock Office, Civic Office, Barry Library, Marks & Spencer, onboard the service vehicle and online via the website at
