Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has added his support to a campaign to create a new crossing over the Dyfi River. A petition has been set up by the South Meirionnydd Older People’s Forum and will be presented to the National Assembly Petitions Committee in two weeks’ time.
Commenting, Mr Bates said:
“I am so pleased to see this petition for a new crossing over the Dyfi River. The Dyfi Bridge and surrounding road network are simply not fit for purpose and it is frustrating that the Welsh Government continues to ignore our calls for investment in this vital infrastructure.
“Closure of the Dyfi Bridge causes huge disruption to individuals and businesses and I am concerned that this historic piece of architecture continues to be eroded by heavy transport and floods. It is high time for the Welsh Government to look seriously at the urgent need to construct a new bridge and invest in improving the highway at Glandyfi.
“I urge people to sign up to the petition and ensure that the voice of Mid Wales is heard loud and clear when the petition is presented at the National Assembly.”
