A meeting held last week at Colwyn Bay to discuss the proposals of the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board for the future of Colwyn Bay hospital highlighted considerable concern over the intended closure of the hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit.
Clwyd West MP, David Jones, who spoke at the meeting, said:
“There is no doubt that those attending the meeting were extremely concerned at the prospect of the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit.
“There was still more concern about the fact that the Health Board document “Health Care in North Wales is Changing” was relatively silent as to its other plans for Colwyn Bay hospital.
“All we know is that it will serve as a ‘spoke’ to Llandudno’s ‘hub’. This would tend to indicate that there is potential for further downgrading.
“I am pleased that an action group has been formed as a consequence of the meeting; this will enable the people of Colwyn Bay to put forward a strong case in the consultation, which will be opening in August.
“For my own part, I will shortly be having a meeting with Health Board Chief Executive, Mary Burrows, when I will be raising these concerns further.”
